DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS CONDUCTS ROUTINE ASSESSMENT OF NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES RESETTLEMENT CENTRE
In furtherance of the Defence Headquarters goal to monitor and improve its institutions through identification of constraints and areas of improvement, the DHQ team has carried out a routine assessment of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre to identify the progress and achievements so far, as well give recommendations where necessary.
In a courtesy visit by his team and other principal officers from the DHQ, Air Vice Marshal NI Ilo, stated that the assessment was an annual routine by the Defence for its facilities, to keep track and meet the necessary needs of each facility, adding that the report from the visit and tour of the Centre will be sent to the Defence Headquarters.
To acquaint the team with the activities of the Centre, the Acting Commanding Officer of the Agric Wing, Major S Yakubu, briefed them on the projects, progress, challenges and the way forward, while stating that the Centre had seen a need to establish distance learning, where training could be done virtually, as part of the trainees’ curriculum for retiring service men/women who were eager to participate in the training but were sent back on health grounds.
In his response, the Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Air Vice Marshal AH Amensinlola, highlighted the recent review of the organizational structure, adding that the Centre was exploring more partnerships with the British Military Advisory Training Team and other organizations, in terms of training.
He stated that plans had also been made to ensure that the trainees get recognised certifications after their six months training course to enable more opportunities for them after retirement, while explaining that the discharge certificates given the trainees presently were not recognised by civil employers and acted as a disadvantage to them.
AVM Amensinlola appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff for his continued support and assistance towards the Centre, citing notable projects that the Defence had supported the Centre on.
