NAFRC Commissions 100-Room Ensuite Accommodation for Retiring Personnel

In a bid to address accommodation challenges and ensure the comfort of retiring personnel after years of dedicated service to the nation, the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) has commissioned a newly constructed 100-room ensuite accommodation. The commissioning ceremony was graced by dignitaries, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, ably represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj Gen FU Mijinyawa.

The Commandant, Air Vice Marshal BR Mamman, described the facility as a significant achievement that reflects the Centre’s commitment to providing quality training and comfort for retiring personnel. “This building is not just a structure but a symbol of our dedication to offering participants a home away from home” he stated.

AVM Mamman acknowledged the contributions of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TA Lagbaja (OON), who approved and funded the project. To honour his memory, the Centre named the accommodation Lt Gen TA Lagbaja Building. He also thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and service chiefs for their continuous support and emphasised NAFRC’s focus on achieving world-class standards in training and research development for retiring personnel.

The Special Guest of Honour, Lt Gen Oluyede duly represented by Maj Gen FU Mijinyawa, acknowledged the late Lt Gen Lagbaja’s foresight in addressing the Centre’s accommodation needs. He commended the Nigerian Army Engineers for constructing the facility and praised the Centre’s leadership for naming it after the late COAS to honour his legacy. “This building will help reduce the accommodation challenges and enhance the Centre’s training efforts,” he said, pledging continued support for NAFRC.

The Deputy Commandant, Maj Gen OA Oyelade, in his closing remarks, expressed appreciation to God for making the project a success, the Chief of Army Staff for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of retiring personnel. He thanked the Commandant, principal staff officers, the NAFRC community and engineers for their efforts in completing the project. Addressing the veterans, he remarked, “This facility reflects our respect and gratitude for your service to the nation.”

The Centre’s Maintenance Officer, Lt Col PS Green, provided a technical overview of the project. He explained that the 2-storey structure, funded and approved by the late COAS, was constructed by the Nigerian Army Engineers. He added that, the building is equipped with standard amenities, including beds, air-conditioning units, study tables, chairs, and refrigerators, designed to ensure a comfortable living environment for participants.

The commissioning of the Lt Gen TA Lagbaja Building is a testament of Centre’s commitment to supporting retiring personnel as the facility will significantly enhance the Centre’s capacity to ensure seamless transition of more retiring personnel into the civil society.
