Commandant’s Cup Concludes with Thrilling Final at NAFRC

The grand finale of the Commandant’s Cup sports competition took place today at the Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao Sports Complex, Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos. This marks the culmination of a spirited tournament that began on March 4, 2025.

The Commandant’s Cup is an integral part of the NAFRC’s passing-out tradition, designed to promote physical fitness, camaraderie, and teamwork among trainees who have undergone several months of post-service vocational and leadership training. The Centre, which prepares retired military personnel for reintegration into civilian life, is currently led by Commandant Air Vice Marshal Bashir Mamman.

Over the past three months, various companies (Coy A–E) competed fiercely across multiple indoor and outdoor sporting events, including Draught, Ayo, Scrabble, Chess, Table Tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Tug of War, and Volleyball.

From the medal table, Coy B emerged dominant in events such as Draught, Tennis, and Table Tennis, alongside Coy D with wins in Chess, Ayo and Volleyball. Coy C also stood out in Tug of war and Scrabble, Coy A emerged victorious in Badminton, showcasing their strength in racquet sports. Final matches in Tug of War and Volleyball were held today to wrap up the competition in grand style.

The atmosphere at the Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao Sports Complex was electric, with cheers echoing from the stands as teams battled for the last gold medals of the season.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, AVM Bashir Mamman praised the sportsmanship and discipline displayed by all participants. ”This sporting events which we just witnessed is more than just games, we spur the spirit of teamwork, resilience, mutual respect and determination that have been the bedrock of your military careers.” he said.

As the Centre prepares for the formal passing-out parade, the Commandant’s Cup has once again served as a testament to the spirit of service and excellence that defines the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre.
